Collection Albert Heijn Art Foundation

Albert Heijn is the oldest still existing supermarket chain of the Netherlands. Since 130 years we fill the plates of five million customers on a daily basis. Together with 100.000 associates we take that responsibility very seriously, and we make sure that the customer always finds tasty, healthy, sustainable and affordable products in our stores.

Collection

The foundation purchases contemporary art, gives assignments and exposes art in the working environment of Albert Heijn and the operating companies. The purchasing policy is aimed at Dutch contemporary art, fitting the dynamic environment of Albert Heijn and in line with perceptions of the relatively young associates.

The collection is characterized by sensibility, innovation, variety of materials, and its orientation towards developments in society.

Artpolicy
Albert Heijn Art Foundation wants to stimulate contemporary art, by making it accessible for both associates and the public. Contemporary art contributes to the dynamic culture of Albert Heijn, with room for emotions, creativity and dialogue.

  • Art creates an open and human work setting by connecting people with each other and their environment.
  • Art fits a retailer that is ahead in innovation, by serving customers best with new and innovative products and services.
  • Art contributes to quality of life, therefore the Foundation wants to make it accessible for all associates.
  • Supporting art as an important facet of contemporary culture, originates from the social awareness of Albert Heijn

History
The collection started in 1987. Because of the 100th anniversary celebration  of Albert Heijn 25 Dutch artists were commissioned to create a series of 4 graphic artworks based on the theme, "Daily life '. All associates were invited to choose a work of art as a personal gift. The 'Series of 100' was exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
