Achmea Art Collection

Achmea (19.000 FTE) is the largest insurance group in the Netherlands, with strong brands including Interpolis, Centraal Beheer Achmea, Zilveren Kruis Achmea, Avéro Achmea, FBTO and Agis. Achmea is also the largest Dutch health insurer, with some 5.2 million policyholders. Achmea is an unlisted company with cooperative roots which balances the interests of clients, business partners, employees and shareholders. Achmea, which has its head office in Zeist, is active in eight European countries.

The Achmea art collection presently consists of contemporary international art with a special focus on Dutch and Turkish art. Besides that there is a special focus on sculpture.

The Achmea Kunstcollectie was intended to open a window on contemporary art, for the benefit of both the staff and those outside the company. It is characterized by a cultural patronage aiming to seek out the boundaries of the visual arts, whereby these are not limited to more traditional art forms (such as painting and sculpture), but also incorporate video art, new media art, and design. Special attention is being paid to contemporary Turkish art.

Achmea was founded in 1995 as an alliance of companies in life insurance, general insurance, healthcare, banking and investments. Until 2005 every company had its own art policy. Since then Achmea has a central art policy carried out by the Art department. It is based on the art policy of Interpolis (1996-2005).
