Isala art collection
info
Isala is a large top clinical hosptial in Zwolle. The hospital contains 775 beds and there are 5407 employees. At the Isala everything hinges on providing eminent care. Patients are our guests and they often experience hard, emotional times. Isala offers more than basic care. In the course of the past years we were assigned more and more specialized top clinical activities. Heart and neuro surgery are repesented in the Isala.
With a relatively small budget the Isala has been collecting contamporary works of art over many decades. Special attention is given to new promising talent. Almost all disciplines of contemporary art are represented in the collection. In 2013 the Isala moved into a brand-new building. Van Huut Architects designed a building in the organic style. All characteristic features of the style are present. A large part of the collection has found its place in the new building. Many works of art of the collection are exhibited in the outdoor area. In the oncoming years the collection will continually be enlarged.
Art policy
The Isala art committee is very active. We purchase art of eminent quality, which corresponds with the architecture and adds something to the experience of patients, their families and the employees of the hospital. Works of art are purchased from professional artists working mainly in The Netherlands.
History
Some years ago there were two hospitals in Zwolle. At the end of the nineties it was decided to merge both hospitals. The two hospitals had their own art committee. After the merge the committees were united. This was the start of a new art policy. There was an art collection in both hospitals, containing about 1200 works of art. It was impossible to exhibit this number in the new building. This implied a thorough selection. At the moment about 450 objects are exhibited in the new hospital. There is still enough room to enlarge the collection with new works of art in the future.
