Artpolicy
Over nearly half a century, the ABN AMRO Art Collection has built a broad overview of post-war visual art in the Netherlands. In this way, ABN AMRO contributes to supporting Dutch culture. By purchasing, managing and exhibiting contemporary art, irreplaceable works are preserved for future generations. In the autumn of 2021, the ABN AMRO Art Space opened, where we offer a platform for new developments in art and provide a stage for artists to reach a wide audience. With the yearly laureated ABN AMRO Art Award, the collection supports female talent in the Netherlands. By purchasing, managing and exhibiting contemporary art, irreplaceable works are preserved for future generations.

History
Since 1977, ABN AMRO has actively collected contemporary art. In 2010, the collection of Fortis Bank Nederland (started in 1997) was merged with the ABN AMRO Art Collection. At present, the Art Collection and the Historical Collection (consisting of historical heritage) are housed in the ABN AMRO Art & Heritage Foundation (formerly the ABN AMRO Art & Historical Heritage Foundation). Since 2011, the foundation has been the sole owner of all (sub)collections of art and historical heritage of ABN AMRO.

Supporting

ABN AMRO Art Award (2004-2007;2015-present)

The ABN AMRO Art Award is an annual incentive prize for female talent in the Netherlands. Quality and individuality are leading criteria. The award includes an exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, an accompanying publication, a second presentation in the ABN AMRO Art Space and a monetary award. In addition, as part of the award, the winner's work is purchased for the ABN AMRO Art Collection.

The ABN AMRO Art Award supports talent in development. The bank wants to offer artists support and make the beginning possible: from experiment, innovation to new steps in a career. The ABN AMRO Art Award was created in 2004 based on the wish to support young talent and to promote interaction between artists with a variety of cultural backgrounds. At its launch, the award was aimed at artists who came from abroad and were living or working in the Netherlands. In 2015, the ABN AMRO Art Award continued as a promotional award for talent in the Netherlands and focused on artists living in the Netherlands. Realizing that gender equality in the art world is not self-evident and that women are severely underrepresented in many sectors of the art world, the Art Award is awarded to female talent from 2024 onwards.

Exhibition triptych at Museum Singer Laren (2023-2026)

To mark the warm relationship that ABN AMRO and Museum Singer Laren have had for more than thirty years, Singer Laren presents three exhibitions with a selection of artworks from the bank's contemporary art collection. The first in the series, Painting Now (January-May 2023), covered 35 years of contemporary painting, from young talent to established artists. The focus here is on works made in the Netherlands. Some artists are inspired by nature, while others give a new interpretation to the classic portrait. The common denominator is formed by the experiment and the freedom from which they work. This shows that painting is very much alive. Appel and Cobra (September 2024-February 2025), the second exhibition resulting from this collaboration, presents an exceptional collection of paintings and some graphic works from the early period of the international avant-garde Cobra movement. The main focus is on seven early paintings by Karel Appel. In addition, works by Asger Jorn, Corneille, Constant, Lotti van der Gaag, Eugène Brands and Anton Rooskens are on display. The third exhibition in this triptych will open at the end of 2025.
